What can a Writer Really Do for Me?

To state it bluntly, lots. A writer can obviously write thoughtful, helpful content for you, but also, a writer can tweak, hone, refine, punch up and improve all kinds of content for you. Do you send emails? Do you have a website? Do you communicate with your customers? Then you probably need a writer. I mean, it’s so obvious, right?

When people do hire a writer, they start to understand. You need a writer because not only will your communications and content improve, but you’ll (potentially) have more time for other (and possibly) more critical stuff. Bottom line: the question is not what do I need a writer for, but rather, why am I punishing myself by not having the assistance of a writer?

And just to drive it home, here are a few things a writer can do for you…

Magic Maker

Indulge me while I convince you that writers can make magic. If you have an idea, or even the start of an idea, we can likely turn it into usable, high-quality content. For real, I’ve gotten ideas and outlines written on scraps of paper that we’ve turned into a masterpiece. Now, we can’t always get Hemingway from chicken scratch, but the spark of an idea can be massaged, finagled, researched and crafted into something cool. And it’s actually not magic, per se; it’s hard work, experience and skills writers use to make good content. And possibly some witchcraft. Kidding.

Punch up That Social Media

Is your brand voice consistently coming through on your social media? Are your social posts landing or falling flat? Do you think it could be because you forget about social media and then panic and just put something out there? Then yes, you need a writer. A professional writer can take time and distill your brand voice into cool and engaging posts instead of the “oh-shit-its-been-4-days-and-I-need-a-quick-post posts.

And, honestly, it’s really not that expensive. Especially when you consider the damage you do to your brand when you just grunt out post after post with typos and errors because you think ‘it’s better than nothing’

Litter Your Website with Good Content

Fun fact: there are over A BILLION websites out there. But wait, before you “actually” or mansplain this away, yes, only about 2 million of those are “active.” But still, that’s about 800,000 sites clogging up the way to your site. Do you think that just your super cool logo is enough to get folks to your site? Probably not.

The fact is, search engines keep indexing your site as long as you keep putting good quality content on it. Typing “good quality content” makes my fingers tingle a little. And, no matter how recently you’ve updated the content on your website, you may still need to make some updates. Things change, and your site can’t just be “set it and forget it.” By utilizing well-established SEO practices, we can keep your site up to date and improve its ranking on search engines.

We can also assist you with this. We use SEO tools to make sure we compose thoughtful content that will make the search engines tingle and delight your audience. Sounds like fun, right? It IS fun!

Give Away FREE Advice, Tips, Tricks, Information and Opinions

In the olden days, we called them blogs or articles. You should also have some of these on your site and in your newsletters. ‘Why,” you ask? Because this is another excellent way to build credibility and engage your audience. And, if you can keep adding good quality content (*tingles*) to your site, you delight search engines and you invite your customers to start thinking about you as an industry leader.

And, while you’re at it, start sending parts of all this good content to your customers via email, too. In some industries, email is better at engaging customers than social media, so why aren’t you doing it? Email newsletters that are more well-composed than just a sales pitch are a great way to add value for customers, drive traffic to your site and position your company as a resource. Of course, they should be well-planned and expertly written. We can help.

Punch it Up and Get the Right Edit

If you’ve read this far (thank you) and you’re still thinking ‘ah, I already have tons of content,’ I implore you to take another look. Yes, you might be able to use the content you have, but it might also benefit from some fresh eyes and a new edit. Update what you have with new data, a different perspective or even just some old-fashioned zhushing up (yes, that is how you spell that word).

What Else Are Your Customers Seeing?

Headlines? Sales sheets? Brochures? Ads? Scripts for TV or podcasts? If you’re one of those people who thinks the paragraph that they wrote for a quick ad 10 years ago is still killing, you’re probably wrong. Either everyone has already seen it, or they saw it and it didn’t move them. Content, brand voice, and customer wants all change over time, and your words should adapt too. Don’t be scared, we can help. Your content was good, but let us help you make it modern, concise and (most of all) readable.

Still with me? Good. Are you starting to get it? Great! Now all you have to do is send us a note or give us a call. We’d love to review your current content and offer some suggestions. And as a bonus for reading this far, if you reach out to us, we’ll take a look at your content FOR FREE and tell you what we think.
